The United Nations reported that more than 100 Taliban fighters hiding in a school had been executed in Mazar-e-Sharif, which the Northern Alliance captured on November 9.
"In Mazar, we've had sources that have corroborated that over 100 Taliban troops who were young recruits who were hiding in a school were killed by Northern Alliance forces on Saturday at 6pm," said Stephanie Bunker, a United Nations spokeswoman in Islamabad.
The recruits are believed to be part of a group of several hundred Pakistani volunteers who arrived in Mazar only two days before.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said its workers were burying the dead in Mazar-i-Sharif.
"It is in the hundreds," said Antonella Notari, of the ICRC. She said her workers had agreed to bury the dead "for reasons of health and of dignity", and they would be put in marked graves for possible identification later.
However the Alliance's Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah denied reports that the Northern Alliance fighters had massacred Taliban soldiers in areas they captured during the last five days.
Afghanistan's anti-Taliban Northern Alliance asked the United Nations to send teams to Kabul to help in the post-Taliban peace process.
