Tony Chambers, 32, black, was executed by lethal injection. Chambers had been convicted of raping and murdering an 11 year old African-American girl, Carenthia Marie Bailey, on 19th November, 1990. He was the 37th person to be executed in the State during the year, No 236 since the State resumed executions in 1974. He was the 78th to be put to death in the U.S. during the year and No 676 since the death penalty was re-introduced in 1976.
