Two UPDF soldiers and four other men were sentenced to death by the High Court in Kampala for the murder of Lt. Umaru Makoko in 2001.
Privates Geoffrey Agondeza and Douglas Ssenyonjo and civilians Yakobo Kakaire, Gideon Kyalimpa, Edward Jingo and Moses Lubega were all found guilty of murder and aggravated robbery.
"Court is in no doubt that you were the people who murdered Lt. Makoko and later robbed his home of several household property. I find you guilty of the offence of murder and robbery," Justice J.B. Katutsi said in passing the verdict.
"There is only one sentence prescribed by the law. You shall therefore suffer death in the manner prescribed by the law," Katutsi told a silent courtroom.
Twaha Kintu, a casual labourer was acquitted of the same charges for lack of evidence.
