convicted women defilers could get life sentences if the amendments to the Ugandan Penal Code proposed by legislators get Parliamentary approval. Women who defile boys below the age of 14 will face the death penalty, while those who defile boys between 14 and 18 years would be sentenced to life imprisonment. The same punishment will also apply to men who defile girls below the age of 18. If a relative, close family friend or a guardian defiles a girl or boy below the age of 14, they too will be sentenced to death. The old law stipulates the death sentence for defilers but has never been applied to anyone and only men are looked at as defilers.
