Ramon Hernandez, 41, Latino, was executed. Hernandez, a registered sex offender, was convicted in the March 31, 2001 brutal rape and strangulation of Rosa Maria Rosado. He was sentenced to death on Oct. 11, 2002 (see). Hernandez becomes the 14th condemned inmate to be put to death in Texas this year and the 491st overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1982, the 39th this year in the USA and the 1316th overall since executions resumed on January 17, 1977.
