With the approval of the Supreme People's Court, a court in Xiamen, Fujian Province, executed an alleged drug trafficker from Taiwan, Li Yuzhang (2621 3022 3864), the People's Daily reported.
On 18 September 2000, Li intended to take flight from Xiamen to the southern port of Kaohsiung in Taiwan via Macao. Customs checkpoint inspectors discovered that Li was carrying 4.18 kg of heroin, the paper said.
In March 2001, in its initial trial, Xiamen Intermediate People's Court sentenced Li to death. In July 2001, Fujian Provincial Higher People's Court maintained the original jurisdiction.
