On the death penalty for raping young children, veteran social activist and Nation Crime Prevention Foundation chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the punishment is only one part of the solution and that the more important aspect lies in education. "When we see so many times people abducting, abusing and even raping young children, then we know that there is something wrong with the society. Threatening capital punishment will not cure everything. The death penalty will make sure that those who do not understand the seriousness of the offence get the message and this will have to be implemented together with a more wide-reaching programme. We should have more community based programmes so that people will come closer and learn to better respect each other and understand the importance of good morals."
