The Speedy Trial Tribunal in Dhaka, Bangladesh, sentenced seven people to death and one person to life imprisonment for killing Juba Dal leader Kabul Khan, 27.
Those given the death penalty were Monir Hossain, Lipai, Biplob, Sunil Saha, Ujjal, Shaheed, Mosharaf Hossain Mosa.
Labu Mallik was given rigorous life imprisonment. According to the prosecution, Khan, leader of the political organisation Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, was brutally murdered by the convicts at Chandair Garpara in Sadar on July 20, 1999, following an earlier disagreement.
The accused attacked Khan with Chinese axes. He died late in hospital.
