Wang Baosheng, 50, Lu Wenlin and Wu Zhijun were sentenced to death by the No 1 Intermediate People's Court of Beijing on charges of voluntary manslaughter and forging value-added invoices. They were also deprived of political rights for life with Wang and Lu also being fined 100,000 yuan (12,091 US dollars) and 150, 000 yuan respectively. Dong Guoxing was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for voluntary manslaughter and illegal possession of guns. He was also deprived of his political right for life. The court found that on 1 September 2002, Hu Guojie, Li Yong and Sun Yuhua drove to Li's residence and kidnapped him. They handed Li to Wu Zhijun and his accomplice Dong Guoxing. Wu Zhijun confessed that he injected drugs into Li's legs and with the help of Dong, tied two heavy clamps to Li's body. After that, they threw Li into a water-diversion canal in Changping District, leading to Li's death by drowning.
