A court in Bangladesh sentenced nine people to death, including three brothers, after convicting them of killing a 42-year-old man

A court in Bangladesh sentenced nine people to death, including three brothers, after convicting them of killing a 42-year-old man. Those condemned were Abdul Jabbar, Karim Daad, Mohammad Rashid, Hasan Ali, Bashir Ahmed, Rashid Ahmed and Meher Ali and his brothers Asgar Ali and Dewan Ali. They weere all from Kalalia Kata village in Howanak. Bashir Ahmed, Rashid Ahmed and Dewan Ali were tried in absentia. Public Prosecutor Shamim Ara Begum told reporters that "this was for the first time so many people were condemned to death in a murder case in the district". According to the prosecution, the convicts picked up from a tea-stall on the morning of August 25, 1991, and killed him over a past quarrel.
